Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba has hailed the late former Republican vice-president Dr Guy Scott as a great leader, and that he was what he was today because of people like Scott.
“A great man has fallen.
Am glad I knew Dr Scott and worked with him closely. Am what I am today because of people like Dr Scot. He was selfless and a man who has made Zambia a better place. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Kalaba in the book of condolences
But Kalaba was asked by Daily Revelation about the criticism against him that he was not the kindest of persons towards Dr Guy Scott during the ferocious disputes that arose in the PF following the death of president Michael Sata.
He was also asked if he regretted the position he took, and if he felt Dr Scott could have still continued playing a pivotal role in government after the death of Sata.
In response, Kalaba said at the time he was critical of Dr Scott, it was what was required at that particular time.
He said there was nothing personal in the stance he took, but a principled matter that he took on board as the party had made a decision.
“And even the last time I met Dr Scott I did tell him, because we laughed about it and we kept on laughing about it every time him and I met,” said Kalaba. “And I kept telling him ‘sir it was the position of the organisation that I was heralding. There was nothing person, and Dr Scott had accepted that there was nothing personal and we had moved on. That is why he remained a great leader because he had no grudges. He would make jokes about something even when it affected him personally. That is leadership par excellence.”
