We would like to put the record straightened about the story that has raised so much dust in the country. Mobile phone records for Valerie Franco, the Lusaka woman brutally murdered by her husband, Mike Ilishebo, who also took his life, have revealed that the marital dispute arose after it was discovered she had saved her secret East African lover as “Haimbe.”

It has been established that as an IT specialist working as head of security at Zanaco, Ilishebo used to access some bank accounts for male clients, containing huge amounts of money and target the holders using his wife, Valerie, as a bait and later they extort money from the unsuspecting bank clients.

Last Thursday, Ilishebo, 44, gruesomely murdered his 35-year-old wife of one year using an electric cable and a knife stabbed in her abdomen before taking his life through poisoning following an obviously heated marital dispute at their Ndeke Meanwood home in Lusaka.

Following the discovery of the two bodies, stories started circulating on social media that Ilishebo allegedly strangled and stabbed his wife to death because of her relationship with justice minister Mulambo Haimbe.

However, according to a record of a WhatsApp English and Swahili conversation in late Valerie’s mobile, the gentleman whose contact she had saved as ‘Haimbe’  was not justice minister Mulambo Haimbe but her secret lover of East Africa.

It is believed that Ilishebo before taking his life after murdering Valerie, who has left behind an eight-month-old baby, had a discussion with justice minister Mulambo Haimbe over the ‘Haimbe’ name in his wife’s phone.

Ilishebo called the Minister and they met at Water Falls Mall along Great East Road in Lusaka. Mike showed Hon. Haimbe screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation that Valerie had with someone whose name was saved as Haimbe. Hon. Haimbe told Mike that he was not the one who had been conversing with Valerie. He pointed out to Mike that the number was an East African one and that he doesn’t speak Swahili as was showing in the WhatsApp conversation.

Ilishebo and Hon. Haimbe ended their meeting on a good note and both went their separate ways.

Again, it is emerging that Ilishebo as head of security at Zanaco was involved in some cyber crime activities. He was an IT specialist and what used to happen was that he got into the bank’s system and target clients who had a lot of money in their account. He would then share the details with Valerie and she would in turn start a relationship with these men. Later, Mike Ilishebo would confront these men and threaten to expose them. In the process they would extort money from them.

In some sections of the media it has been reported that the dispute that led to the tragic deaths of the couple arose from Ilishebo’s decision to hide his HIV positive status and that he had lost his job at Zanaco.
