IT’S NOT TRUE TO SAY ACC IS NOT INVESTIGATING UPND CORRUPTION – TIZ

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) President Sampa Kalungu says it’s not true to assert that investigative wings are not investigating corruption cases happening under the UPND administration, citing the investigations in the Ministry of Health which cost Dr Magwende his job.

Kalunga said that investigation on the previous regime should not be termed as a witch-hunt because they spent a lot of time in government .

“We are not saying there are no corruption cases but already we have seen for instance in the Ministry of Health there is some investigation going on during the current (government) one and there are many others that are still being probed, but the expectation is that under the previous regime they stayed longer in office than the current one,” Sampa said. “It’s normal to expect that there will be more cases from the previous regime as compared to the cases that are coming up now. So the Anti-Corruption Commission is correct in stating that yes most of the cases are coming from the PF regime, they were the custodians of public assets and goods.”

Kalunga said to Daily Revelation Media that”it is expected that a government which stays in government for more than ten years is likely to commit acts of corruption”, but that does not mean that eyes should be closed to the corruption that is happening now, saying he was happy that ACC was already looking at the cases that are coming now.

Nevertheless he encouraged citizens to report acts of corruption.

“But also it is expected that after their first term or second term there will be more cases that would have been built against them,” said Kalunga.
