NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says a lot of people were thinking KK was just old when he said that the only person who could divide the country on tribe was President Hakainde Hichilema, but he has now been proved right.
Addressing a campaign rally in Chisamba, Central Province yesterday, Mundubile said people have seen for themselves the tribalism President Hichilema had brought into the country.
“Kaunda said any other person in Zambia qualifies to be President, but there is just one man who can divide the country. Isn’t that so? A lot of people were thinking KK is old he didn’t know what he was talking about. But today we have seen it for ourselves,” Mundubile said. “So all of you here, Lozi, Tonga, Bemba, you are all my relatives and I am your relative. This is very important because we can’t develop a country when we are divided.”
Mundubile said his first assignment as president would be to fight tribalism in the country.
“We are going to make sure we live and work as one. When we stay together even development is going to come. Here a lot of youths are not being employed. Are you in the database? You can’t. Why? Because of tribalism. Do you see how bad tribalism is? In our government there will be no database,” Mundubile said, adding that jobs in government would be advertised for so that all the Zambians could have an opportunity.
He said those to be employed in the government would be able to see their names via the district offices, as opposed to ‘just talking talking that I have employed so many people.’
Mundubile said the people could not wait to have the jobs given to them on rallies.
He promised to professionalise the civil service.
On gold mining in the area, Mundubile said the gold belonged to the people and he would ensure that soldiers and police were not chasing people from the gold fields.
He said his administration would teach the small scale miners to mine safely and provide equipment through loans to be administered via cooperatives.
Mundubile said through the Zambia Gold, a ready market shall be established for the gold miners in the region.
“The difference between us and those in government is we want Zambians to prosper but they want foreigners to prosper,” he said.
On the closure of the continued closure of the University of Zambia (UNZA), Mundubile urged the President to immediately open the university, wondering why he was scared to open the country’s largest learning institution.
But when the crowd shouted that the government had failed to build toilets, Mundubile wondered why those in power should be entrusted with another term when they had failed to develope toilets in their first five year term.
He said the people voted for President Hichilema to reduce fertilizer but he had instead caused the price of the commodity to massively escalate under his watch.
Mundubile said President Hichilema promised to end loadshedding but he was now exporting power from Chisamba and other areas produced in Zambia to foreign countries while leaving locals in the dark.
“If you have been in government for five years and still campaigning like you are in your first year then kuya bebele (you have to go),” Mundubile said. “When a leader starts to look at voters like they are his farm workers then the country is destroyed.”
Mundubile said President Hichilema’s administration was seeking to buy democracy by bribing Tonse Alliance candidates with K10 millions in order to withdraw from the races, but the candidates were wondering where the government was getting the money from when there was no fertilizer for farmers as they were getting it in medas.
He said instead of announcing the floor price of maize the administration was focussed to talking about the moisture content in the maize.
He said his administration would be announcing the floor price on the first of June.
Mundubile promised that under his administration the Social Cash Transfer would continue but would be devoid of discrimination.
He said his government would not entertain caderism in markets and bus stations and in the civil service.
Mundubile said five people have so far died from electoral related violence during this campaign season, but the President has been quiet because the violence had been committed by his own members.
“If you see someone with a panga, they are not our members,” said Mundubile.
