Police arrest hospitalised man who attempted to kill himself over non-rental payment

Police in Kapiri Mposhi district have arrested a 23-year-old man for attempting to commit suicide.

Central Police Commissioner Roy Kashimba confirmed the incidence in an interview, and identified the man arrested for attempting to commit suicide as Chrispine Chilikosa of Matilyo Compound in Kapiri Mposhi district.  

Kashimba explained that Chalikosa attempted to commit suicide after failing to pay house rentals for eight months, adding that the man in question drunk some rat poison in an effort to take his life. 

“This formation received a report of attempted suicide female Mailesi Musoka, who is aged 19, of Matilyo Compound in Kapiri Mposhi that her husband by the name of Chrispine Chalikosa, aged 23, of the same address took rat poison after his landlord asked him to clear the 8 months rental arrears that they stayed in the house. Police visited the scene and found that he was already taken to the clinic within the Matilyo Compound. However, Police followed up the matter to the clinic and found him being attended to though he was in an unconscious state,” said Kashimba. “Later, he was referred to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital where he is currently admitted. This occurred on 27th January, 2024 at 08:30 hours in  Matilyo Compound in Kapiri  Mposhi district.”
