President Hakainde Hichilema says there was no development in the country before the UPND came into office in 2021.
Speaking during campaign activities in Chavuma yesterday, President Hichilema said he needed members of parliament, and Council chairpersons because he could not work alone.
And President Hakainde Hichilema has asked the people of Chavuma in North Western Province to vote for a ‘suit’ by voting for UPND councillors, mayors, members of parliament and president.
“So we must do one thing, all of us must do one thing. Those of us who love each other. And l am saying going forward, there is no way the President can work alone,” President Hichilema said. “President HH needs councillors, needs council chairperson, needs members of parliament and the president. So on the 13th of August we are voting for a chain. We are voting for the suit.”
President Hichilema reminded the people of Chavuma where they were coming from. He said the people from Chavuma used to be beaten at Intercity bus terminus in Lusaka, just for wearing UPND regalia.
“You know how we suffered at the hands of those who were in government at that time. You know if you traveled from here to Lusaka, wore the UPND uniform you got beaten at intercity in Lusaka. Today, you are moving freely. No one is beating you in Lusaka, you are free,” he said. “This is what your vote has done for yourself, and for the people of Chavuma. Today you are moving freely, you voted for HH, Bally in 2021. In 2021 you gave yourself freedom.”
President Hichilema said before the UPND formed government, there was no development in the country.
He said Zambia was experiencing development under the UPND government, adding that the country would be better if they continued in government.
