UPND MP Mabeta’s cries!

By Daily Revelation Editor

An audio where Kankoyo member of parliament Heartson Mabeta (UPND) is heard talking to a UPND operative has emerged, with the latter indicating alleged stage-managing of the convention in order to elect individuals allegedly preferred by the President to the party’s national management committee, while depriving Mabeta and Transport minister Frank Tayali for constantly speaking for people to benefit from the black mountain.

‎Mabeta said he and Tayali were hated for speaking for the people that leaders should learn to share the proceeds from the black mountains with the citizenry, as opposed to leaders being the only ones getting fat.

‎When contacted over the audio and assertions Mabeta was raising, Information minister and UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said what mattered was the actions from the voters, when asked if President Hichilema had instructed the convention to elect the people he had handpicked for election to the NMC, against democratic tenets.

‎In voice notes shared with Daily Revelation by sources in the UPND administration, Mabeta has been heard in about two conversations he had with a man, and a separate one with a woman, complaining about being deprived together with Tayali and others because of their positions on various national matters.

‎One of the people he was speaking with, who seemed to have knowledge of the alleged internal underhand methods at play, was heard telling Mabeta about the “removal of Tayali’s number.”

‎”He’s also been left out from the group from the Copperbelt,” the unidentified man told Mabeta.

‎”Naine kumo out (Am I also out)?” Mabeta asked, as the man confirmed in the affirmative.

‎The audios came to light in the midst of the just ended UPND convention, which ushered in President Hakainde Hichilema and other office bearers into the party’s NMC.

‎It’s possible for emotions to boil over during elections, especially when contestants lose or their electoral chances are placed at a disadvantage. Therefore, this cannot be entirely discounted from in the assertions being raised by Mabeta.

‎However, the assertions he raised seem to offer credence to his argument, specifically on the fact that he has been speaking over a topical issue around the black mountains where some leaders seem to have gained sole access and are enjoying massively from the resource against the people Mabeta seems to be speaking for.

‎There is actually plenty of on record evidence where Mabeta has repeatedly raised the issue, including Tayali, which seems to have rubbed the wrong side of some senior government officials. There is actually a huge story around those black mountains which were hotly debated during the process of acquiring them actually. The records are plenty for Zambians to make reference to.

‎Therefore, if the assertions being raised about how the UPND conducted elections, as asserted by the two party operatives Mabeta was talking to, are true, then it should send shivers down the spines of Zambians in terms of democratic values in the ruling party.

‎We are of the view that the ruling party should always aspire to be a point of reference in terms of how it conducts its affairs, particularly those bordering on democracy. The implication of a ruling party that sees no wrong in terms of how it conducts its internal process is that it is likely to extend such overreach towards how it conducts national elections and other public affairs.

‎And worryingly, this seems like an ongoing national crisis, where from time immemorial internal elections that have been conducted in ruling parties, including some in the opposition, seem to be conducted in such a manner as fulfilling a predetermined outcome.
