UPND SUSPENDS MONGU MAYOR

The UPND leadership has suspended Mongu mayor Nyambe Muyumbana from the party for three months.

According to the letter dated March 10, 2023 and signed by UPND Mongu district chairman Lishamwa Muyunda, Muyumbana’s suspension comes in the wake of his misconduct in public places, which the UPND says has brought the name of the ruling party into contempt and disrepute.

Muyunda indicated that the Mongu mayor was given a 14-day ultimatum in which to exculpate himself, but has remained defiant.

“On 23rd February, 2023 you were written to a letter to exculpate yourself from the charge of having been involved in an argument with Mr Jack Mwangala, councillor for Imwiko ward, that on 16th February, 2023 at Becca Night Club and that you subsequently attacked and fought him physically with the assistance of Mr Jimmy Kaumba, councillor for Kambule ward. This was barely a few weeks after having been photographed sleeping on a toilet seat in a public place with your pictures extensively circulated on social media,” read the letter seen by Daily Revelation, in part, which has also been copied to UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda, the UPND Western Province leadership and the Mongu Town Clerk. “You were given fourteen days as per the Disciplinary Code to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for bringing the name of the party into contempt, ridicule or disrepute. We note however that in defiance, you have opted not to respond to the letter within the stipulated time frame. On this basis, it has been decided to suspend you from the party for three months with immediate effect for bringing the name of the party into contempt, ridicule or disrepute.”

The UPND leadership has warned the Mongu mayor that any further misconduct on his part will attract the severest punishment.

“We want to ensure that any further misconduct on your part will attract the severest punishment,” stated Muyunda.

But when reached for a comment, Muyumbana said he would not want to be dragged into this discourse.

“I have no comment. No comment. Thank you so much for taking time to call me,” said Muyumbana.

In one of the videos Muyumbana is seen engaging in some altercation with a lady in a drinking place, who was merely advising him to mind the way he conducts himself in public places.

But in response Muyumbana told the lady, who was offering counsel, that she is stupid and she should go out the drinking place.

The lady however defiantly told the Mongu mayor that she would not go out of that particular drinking place because “you are not the one buying us beer.”

Later Muyumbana is seen sleeping on the toilet cistern clad in the UPND party regalia.

The mayor is a public finger who should be seen to be responsible in action and conduct, when he is at work in the meeting, at home with his family even in general public.
