Health minister Sylvia Masebo says she has acknowledged the people’s reactions to the Covid-19 measures announced by the government, saying the government will continue to engage people.
During a Covid-19 situation update and heightened measures briefing today, Masebo said she had watched various TV programmes, and that her phone has been buzzing throughout following the measures that were announced by the government.
Zambians have generally not taken kindly to several measures announced by the government including requirements on people to provide proof of vaccination before entering government buildings and that civil servants and public service workers will be required to be vaccinated to be admitted for work. The measures are viewed as unconstitutional and infringing on people’s human rights.
“I have managed to watch some of the various TV stations and programmes. It is interesting to see the reactions of the people, and I think that we are living in a democracy and important to allow people to express views. And as a listening government we shall continue to engage people,” said Masebo.
Masebo said 12,239 vaccination doses were administered yesterday, and that the country currently has 96 active Covid-19 cases, but that 13 patients have been released for home management .
She said since the pandemic started 260,404 people in Zambia have recovered, posting a 98 percent recovery rate.
