WE SHALL FIRE CIVIL SERVANTS TO HELP THEM REPENT – PS

By Isaac Zulu

Central Province permanent secretary Milner Mwanakampwe has said that some civil servants are not willing to repent and have continued to sabotage the implementation of government programmes.

Mwanakampwe, in an interview with Daily Revelation, expressed displeasure at the failure by some civil servants to adapt to the UPND administration’s development agenda and work towards its implementation but “have deliberately opted to sabotage government with a view to create an impression that the UPND government is failing to meet the aspirations of the people.”

He said that the UPND administration had given ample time for some civil servants “to repent but they are still pulling in the opposite direction, saying those that don’t want to repent will be requested to go and repent from their homes.

“The President is working extremely hard to ensure that we deliver on our development agenda. And what the President says is a policy direction. But if some civil servants are not willing to our work culture and are pulling in the opposite direction, there can only be one assertion that they are sabotaging the implementation of government programmes. This has been noticed not only in Central Province, but all over the country,” Mwanakampwe said. “And if people want to continue playing games on us and sabotage government, they are sabotaging themselves. I think we have given enough time for some civil servants to repent, but they are not willing to repent. So we shall help them to repent by putting them aside so that they can go and repent from their homes.”

He said that people should accept that government has changed “and as such they should make changes to their work culture,” saying the UPND administration will not tolerate people that want to politicise the civil service.

Mwanakampwe also urged civil servants to acquaint themselves with the UPND manifesto in order to ensure effective implementation of government programmes and projects.

“My plea, advice and wish is that they should acquaint themselves with the UPND manifesto and ensure that there’s effectiveness and efficiently in the execution of government programmes and projects,” said Mwanakampwe.
