Outgoing Vice-President Inonge Wina’s office has reacted to information over the eight Toyota Hilux Vanettes with stripped number plates that were alleged spotted with her relatives in Lusaka’s Waterfalls area.
Well placed sources have told Daily Revelation that the vehicles were spotted with some of her relatives at a car wash.
“Inonge Wina’s family members where this week seen at a carwash in Waterfalls with eight Toyota Hilux vanettes with number plates stripped and kept inside the vehicles. There is suspicion they could be headed for change of ownership,” sources said.
But contacted for comment, permanent secretary in the Vice-President’s office, Stephen Mwansa said he was not aware of that, saying the only fleet he had in his stock was one which came in months before the elections, and it was a regular exercise of replacing old fleet with new fleet.
“No. Not that I am aware of because we did not give them any and there is a very strict rule as to who drives the government vehicle. And if that happened when? No because all the new vehicles that I have, and I am saying I, because it’s me that buys the vehicles for office of The Vice President, are actually vice-presidential escort vehicles and they are not Toyota Hiluxes,” said Mwansa. “They are Mazda BT 50s, but we can’t indicate the numbers because such is not allowed in the regulations. And they are not white we usually go for the dark colours.. I am speaking as controlling officer in the office of the Vice-President for Administration.”
