NG’OMA CLAIMS PF HAS EMBRACED INTRA-PARTY DEMOCRACY

By Isaac Zulu

Political scientist Dr Alex Ng’oma claims that the former ruling PF has embraced intra-party democracy going by the number of people expressing interest for the party presidency.

And Dr Alex Ng’oma said that rebranding the MMD should go beyond just changing the name, but the leadership as well.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Ng’oma claimed that the former ruling party believed in democracy.

“It is clearly an indication that the Patriot Front leadership believes in intra party democracy… they have embraced intra party democracy, which is good for a political organisation,” said Dr Ng’oma.

He said that opposition political parties are key stakeholders in a democratic dispensation, as they have a mandate of providing checks and balances to the ruling party.

And Dr Ng’oma said that rebranding a political organisation should not be restricted to changing the name of a political party and its logo, but should include putting in place leadership that would inspire the general membership.

“Each time people are talking about rebranding a political party they should not restrict that to just changing the name of the party. They should also look at the leadership that they have and consider fusing in fresh blood and those that are from the old school. So for me, rebranding the MMD should go beyond just changing the name, but should include putting in place the leadership that would be attractive to the masses and inspire the general membership,” Dr Ng’oma said.

Dr Ng’oma said that political parties should be strategic in their rebranding in order for them to remain relevant in the political arena.
