NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says President Hakainde Hichilema should not let the pressures of campaigning for the August 13 general elections make him forget to announce the maize floor price.
Addressing a political rally in Isoka yesterday, Mundubile begged President Hichilema for the government to announce the maize floor price.
“How many farmers are here? What l want to say is, l want to talk with farmers first. Today is July, isn’t it? It has been a long time since you harvested your maize. Even up to today, the government is yet to announce the floor price of maize. The government has not opened the market for selling maize,” Mundubile said. “I want to use this platform in Isoka and to tell the President of this country, President Hakainde Hichilema, farmers here are suffering. Even if there is pressure due to campaigns, my brother l am begging you to open the floor price of maize, so that farmers sell their maize.”
Mundubile said any government which was working properly, its priority should be to look after the farmers because they are the ones who feed the country.
“We care about you farmers, and the reason why we care about you is because you are the ones who keep the country. There is no person who can stay without eating. You are the ones who look after the country. So any government which is working properly its number one priority is to look after the farmers. You farmers, the problem you are facing is that the government does care about the work you are doing,” Mundubile said.
“You gave your powers to the government, you voted for Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his followers so that they can help you. The reason why you voted for them is that they came with the message that they will be giving fertiliser like this, now they are giving you in a meda.”
Mundubile promised to solve the indebtedness of the civil servants. He said when he gets elected as Zambia’s president, he was going to introduce a debt swap for the civil servants.
“I now come to my friends, the civil servants. You are the workers of the government. All the problems you are going through we have heard about. You have become indebted, and the reason why you become indebted is because the government does not have your debts,” Mundubile said. “If the government had your debts, you are going to borrow from money lenders. Now the interest rate and other things, some walk with their payslips which have nothing. So the civil servants just walk without confidence.”
