You will be able to see things your eye can’t see now in one year, two years time, says President Hakainde Hichilema.
And President Hichilema has terminated the service of the members of the Civil Service, Teaching Service, Zambia Correctional Service, Zambia Police Service, and Local Government Service commissions, in a statement issued by State House media Head Clayson Hamasaka, on behalf of the presidential spokesperson.
Speaking during the swearing ceremony of the deputy Secretary to the Cabinet, permanent secretaries and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) national coordinator, President Hichilema said he was more convinced than ever that his administration will turn the country’s fortunates around and make it better, pointing to some of the realignments that have undertaken.
He said the moves may not be seen now, but “one year, two years down the line you will see things which your eye can’t see now.”
“The first 100 days was to understand better where the leakages are coming from,” President Hichilema said.
The President said the Secretary to the Treasury did an analysis recently showing a correlation between leadership and the economy, saying things pointed downhill, particularly after 2015 when Edgar Lungu’s PF assumed office, mainly because of extravagance, corruption and debt.
“The country became a Sangwapo. This country will not continue to be Sangwapo,” President Hichilema said.
He said he has heard some saying he will get tired talking about corruption, but that he will never get tired talking about what is right.
“Even if I stand alone and millions walk away from what is right, I will talk about what is right. I will do what is right,” President Hichilema said, adding that the previous administration began to promote what was wrong as right, to the extent that “if you did what was right you were removed.”
He said those who were doing wrong celebrated, but their celebrations were temporal.
President Hichilema cautioned the new Tourism Permanent Secretary that those seeking hunting concessions were already looking for his number to “to tell you how they should continue monopolising hunting concessions.”
“I am alerting you what you are walking into. I am sure your minister will tell you. I am sure he has new friends there…they will offer you a bit,” President Hichilema said, saying the PS must be able to make a distinction between those who were genuinely aligning themselves to him and those doing so on account of his new found position.
He gave the same caution to new Local Government permanent secretary Maambo Hamaundu that he was going to a Ministry where they give road contracts to people who have never held a hoe before, with 20 percent upfront payments.
“We have asked for an audit of domestic debt,” said President Hichilema.
