The Rural Children Education Foundation (RUCEF) has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for his strong political will demonstrated in prioritising education
In a letter of appreciation, RUCEF chairperson Dr Wallace Nduma stated that commended the landmark decision to enshrine the Free Education Policy
into law.
“This progressive step will significantly narrow the wide gaps in literacy levels across the country and grant greater access to quality education for children from all corners of Zambia, particularly those in rural and underserved communities,” he stated.
Dr Ndumba stated that the statement of appreciation was made purely out of true gratitude for the political will shown by the government in advancing education.
“It is in no way a political endorsement. We firmly believe that efforts aimed at promoting education should not be politicised. This particular historical development is of keen interest to our foundation and aligns directly with our core objectives; it is for this reason that we are publicly commending this commendable gesture,” Dr Ndumba stated. “Rural Children Education Foundation remains strictly apolitical and stands ready to support any initiative or agenda — from any quarter — that genuinely promotes the education of Zambian children.”
He stated that
RUCEF was a dedicated initiative focused on supplementing government efforts by
supporting children in rural areas with essential educational materials such as books, school bags, shoes, and other learning resources. Our goal is to motivate and
encourage these children to remain in school and achieve academic excellence.
“In addition, we are poised to engage in sensitisation campaigns against harmful traditional practices such as early marriages and teenage pregnancies, which continue to pose serious threats to the educational futures of many young girls and boys,” Dr Ndumba stated. “We are also determined in providing professional career guidance and exposure
opportunities, made possible through the generosity of well-wishers, to complement
both governmental and organisational efforts in advancing education nationwide. As a foundation, we are deeply convinced that education is the greatest equaliser and a fundamental basic need that every child deserves — especially those in rural areas who contend with challenges of distance, inadequate infrastructure, and scarcity of learning
materials.”
Dr Ndumba stated that they were now finalising formalities and would soon roll out their futuristic agenda to support the landmark achievement by the government, a dream and vision they embarked on
few years ago,” stated Dr Ndumba. “We look forward to forging strong collaborative partnerships with relevant ministries, stakeholders, and individuals who share our passion for transforming the lives of Zambia’s rural children through education.
Once again, please accept our heartfelt appreciation for this visionary commitment to the future of our nation. Your leadership continues to inspire hope and determination among rural communities.”
